In Singrauli district, a mob attacked Morwa police station in protest of the murder of a 15-year-old boy. At around 7 pm, stone-pelting escalated the situation, forcing police to use tear gas and resort to lathicharge. During the protest, some miscreants also threw petrol bombs at the police station. Following the incident, a heavy police force was deployed in the area. Administrative officials are constantly monitoring the situation.
At around 10 pm, the mob set fire to a car parked near the accused’s house. Singrauli MLA Ram Niwas Shah visited the victims amid the chaos. Police investigation revealed that Pawan Shah (15), a resident of Sai Nagar, was murdered by two of his friends. The accused have been identified as Sudhanshu Gupta and Irshad Khan.
According to reports, Pawan and his friends had a dispute over smoking cigarettes on Holi.
Due to this conflict, the accused lured Pawan to a secluded area on the pretext of offering him alcohol. They strangled him and attacked him with stones, killing him.
Pawan was reported missing since March 9. His body was found in the bushes on Wednesday, sparking outrage throughout the area. Gaurav Bainal stated that the situation is currently under control. The SDM and other senior officials were present at the scene and tried to pacify the situation by speaking to the local residents. Tear gas shells were used to control the crowd.
Superintendent of Police Manish Khatri stated that some people were attempting to damage a police riot control vehicle, forcing police to fire several tear gas shells. No casualties have been reported. He stated that the situation is currently under control. Local public representatives are communicating with the affected family. Police are also examining CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify those involved in the violence.
