To tackle the recurring water shortage in rural areas during the summer months, the district administration has approved a comprehensive Rs 83 crore water tank scheme aimed at strengthening drinking water supply across 97 villages in the district.
The proposal was prepared by the Rural Water Supply Department of the Zilla Parishad after reviewing the annual water scarcity situation. Initially, a plan worth Rs 79 crore had been submitted, but district officials asked the department to revise and expand the proposal considering the increasing demand for drinking water in rural areas. Following this, a detailed project worth Rs 83 crore was prepared and has now received approval.
According to officials, the scheme will focus on improving water infrastructure in Hingna and Ramtek talukas, which frequently face water shortages during peak summer.
The project will include the construction of new water tanks, repair and renovation of existing wells, borewell maintenance, and strengthening of water supply systems in villages.
Meanwhile, the administration has also planned tanker-based water supply in 97 villages where an acute shortage is expected. With temperatures rising, complaints regarding water scarcity have already begun surfacing from several rural areas.
Officials said that monitoring of water levels in wells and other sources is being carried out regularly to ensure timely intervention. The administration has assured that adequate measures will be taken to ensure uninterrupted drinking water supply to affected villages during the summer season.
Authorities have also urged villagers to use water carefully and avoid wastage so that available resources can be managed efficiently during the dry months.
1,170 villages in district may get affected by water scarcity
The Rural Water Supply Department, ZP has estimated that 1,170 villages could face water scarcity this summer. The comprehensive summer plan includes,489 repairs under Nal Yojna, 153 Navin Vindhan Wells, 1,407 Well repairs, 52 temporary taps, 196 Public Wells reboring, Tanker supply to 97 villages, 339 Private Wells acquisition, 170 water source recharging-total 2,903 works to be done.
