A train accident occurred in Seoni district under South East Central Railway (SECR) on Friday. The brake van, rearmost component of a train travelling from Shahdol to Nagpur, suddenly derailed. The incident occurred near Kheraji Station, causing panic in the entire section. The train was moving at normal speed on its scheduled route when, with a sudden jerk, the brake van wheels derailed. This sudden movement and loud noise caused panic among the passengers inside the train and created a moment of panic. During the accident, a heavy briefcase suddenly fell from the luggage compartment inside the coach.

The briefcase landed directly on a female passenger, injuring her. On receiving information about the incident, senior Railway officials, a team of technical experts and RPF and GRP personnel immediately arrived at the scene. The injured woman was immediately attended to and the situation assessed. According to Railway officials, preliminary investigations suggest technical reasons for the accident.

However, detailed technical tests are currently underway to determine the exact cause and prevent such incidents in the future. Following the derailment, traffic on the route was completely disrupted. Technical staff are working on a war footing to repair the track and restore the derailed brake van. At the time of filing of the report, rail traffic on this route remained halted and train operations will resume only after the track is secure. Prioritising passenger safety, the Railway administration has instructed technical staff to complete the work as quickly as possible. Currently, due to the Railway’s vigilance and prompt action, the situation is under control, and all other passengers are reported to be safe.
