Manglik or auspicious ceremonies such as marriages, engagements, housewarming rituals and mundan will remain suspended for nearly a month as Kharmaas begins on March 15 and continues till April 14, according to the Hindu Panchang. According to scholar, Pandit Mahatma Prasad Tiwari, the period will commence with Meen Sankranti on Sunday, March 15, when the Sun enters the zodiac sign Pisces (Meen), which is ruled by Jupiter (Guru). On that day, the Punya Kaal will be observed from 6:31 am to 12:30 pm, while the Maha Punya Kaal will be from 6:31 am to 8:31 am. After this, auspicious ceremonies are traditionally avoided during the Kharmaas period. Notably, in the Sanatan tradition, the timing of any auspicious activity is determined after consulting the Hindu Panchang. According to religious beliefs, Kharmaas occurs when the Sun enters the zodiac signs Sagittarius (Dhanu) or Pisces (Meen), both ruled by Jupiter. As a result, the period occurs twice a year, generally between March–April and November–December.

Due to its religious significance, ceremonies such as marriage, engagement, housewarming and the commencement of new ventures are generally postponed during this time. However, the period is considered highly favourable for spiritual practices, religious observances and devotion. Worship of Lord Vishnu and Surya Dev during Kharmaas is believed to bring special blessings. Religious traditions also recommend certain disciplines during this time. Devotees are advised to wake up before sunrise, complete morning ablutions and offer arghya to the Sun God. Recitation of sacred texts such as the Aditya Hridaya Stotra and Vishnu Sahasranama is also regarded as beneficial. Charity also holds special importance during Kharmaas. Donating food, clothes and money to the needy is believed to bring prosperity and positive outcomes in life. Devotees are further advised to maintain harmony, avoid disputes, remain cautious in financial dealings and refrain from consuming tamasic substances such as meat and alcohol during this period.
