Preparation to elevate security standards at Raja Bhoj Airport to international levels has reached completion. Madhya Pradesh’s largest and most technologically advanced fire station, constructed at an approximate cost of Rs 10 crore, is ready for operation. The facility is expected to be inaugurated later this month. Once operational, the new station will significantly fortify the safety infrastructure required to handle wide-body international aircraft such as Boeing-777 and Airbus A-330. High-Pressure foam systems and 20,000-litre capacity To combat large-scale aviation emergencies, the station incorporates state-of-the-art global resources. Three ‘Crash Fire Tenders’ (CFTs) have been deployed, designed for rapid response at high speeds. These units feature high-speed, high-pressure foam systems and a combined water storage capacity of 18,000 to 20,000 litres. Additionally, the station maintains a reserve of 2,200 liters of foam compound and 500 kilograms of dry chemical powder—essential for suppressing intense fuel fires. For operations in complex environments filled with smoke or toxic gases, specialised breathing apparatus, high-pressure pumps, and hydraulic tools are available to assist in rescuing passengers trapped in wreckage.

Upgraded to Category-7 standards The new fire station has been upgraded to Category-7, a classification that demands highest rigor in fire safety protocols. A dedicated team of 18 to 25 specially trained firefighters will be stationed here around the clock, capable of responding instantaneously to emergencies. The station’s design and infrastructure have been engineered with future scalability in mind; it can be transitioned to Category-9 without major structural modifications. This facility is equipped to efficiently manage emergencies involving aircraft up to 76 meters in length with massive wingspans. Crucially, the unit is designed to become fully active within just two minutes of any incident during landing or take-off. A first for Madhya Pradesh This facility marks the first of its kind in Madhya Pradesh in terms of scale and technology. It features automatic fire monitors and “Zonal Guns”, sophisticated equipment typically found only at select elite international airports. Zonal Guns allow for precise targeting of the fire’s source, ensuring maximum impact . Following inauguration, old fire station will be decommissioned, and all airport fire safety operations will shift to this new, fully equipped building.
