In a shocking and disturbing incident, a 28-year-old man allegedly set himself on fire while riding a motorcycle in village Paisari, located nearly 20 kilometers away. The incident unfolded suddenly, leaving passersby stunned and in panic. According to police investigation and CCTV footage, the man identified as Manjit Jaiswal was seen leaving a petrol pump in Bilha carrying fuel in a container. While riding his bike, he reportedly poured the petrol on himself. After travelling a short distance, he set himself — along with the motorcycle — on fire in the middle of the road. Within moments, flames engulfed him, yet he continued moving forward before eventually collapsing. Eyewitnesses said the man engulfed in fire, ran and rolled on the ground in an attempt to douse the flames.

However, due to fear and shock, bystanders were initially unable to intervene. Upon receiving information, Bilha police promptly reached the spot and, with the help of locals, managed to extinguish the fire. The critically injured Manjit was rushed to the Bilha Community Health Center, where doctors provided primary treatment. Considering the severity of his burns, he was referred to Bilaspur and later admitted to a private burn and trauma center, where his condition remains critical. Police have seized the burnt motorcycle and other belongings from the scene. The motive behind this extreme act is still unclear. Authorities are currently examining his mobile call records and investigating his family background. “Acting swiftly, Bilha police reached the spot and ensured the injured was admitted for treatment. An investigation is underway to ascertain the reasons behind the incident,” said ASP (Rural) Madhulika Singh.
