Singrauli police have secured an eight-day remand of one of the accused arrested in connection with the daring daylight robbery at a Bank of Maharashtra branch in Waidhan. Authorities have recovered Rs 15.71 lakh in cash and 61 grams of stolen gold worth around Rs 9 lakh from the accused, identified as Kamlesh Kumar, a resident of Gwal Bigha village in Nalanda district, Bihar. The incident, which occurred on April 17, has triggered widespread concern over law and order in the district. According to police, five unidentified armed miscreants stormed the bank around 1 pm and carried out the robbery at gunpoint. The gang allegedly fled with 9–10 kg of gold estimated to be worth Rs 10–15 crore and around Rs 15 lakh in cash. The gold reportedly belonged to customers and had been stored in lockers against loan pledges.

During the incident, the assailants held staff and customers hostage, creating panic inside the premises. The bank manager was assaulted when he hesitated to cooperate, reportedly being struck on the head with a gun butt. The robbers forced open a locker and escaped within 15 minutes using bags to carry the valuables. Notably, there was no security guard present at the bank at the time of the incident. Superintendent of Police Manish Khatri reached the spot soon after the robbery and all exit points in the city were sealed. CCTV footage is being examined, and a multi-state investigation has been launched. Senior officials, including Inspector General Gaurav Rajput and Deputy Inspector General Hemant Chauhan, visited Singrauli to review the situation. Meanwhile, Director General of Police Kailash Makwana is also expected to assess the developments. Police continue efforts to identify and apprehend the remaining accused.
