In a tragic incident, two men were killed and a minor boy was injured after a speeding car driven by a man in an inebriated state rammed into the crowd in Dhanvantri Nagar area under the jurisdiction of Garha police station, on Tuesday night. The deceased have been identified as Pankaj Sahu (34), a resident of Ganjipura under Lordganj and Ganesh Prasad (45), a resident of Maharajpur in Adhartal.
Police have arrested the accused car driver identified as Kishan Chaudhary (27), a resident of Ranjhi.
According to Garha police, learning about a road accident in Dhanvantri Nagar area, police reached the spot and rushed the injured at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College and Hospital. In the primary check-up, two of the injured named Pankaj Sahu and Ganesh Prasad were declared brought dead while a minor boy Shubham Kumhar sustained injuries.
In further investigation, the injured 16-year-old Shubham Kumhar, a class 10 student and resident of Maharajpur near Adhartal said that on April 21, he was returning home with his father Ganesh Prasad on a scooter (MP-20SZ-9516) after attending a family wedding.
At Dhanvantari Nagar Tiraha, they had stopped by the roadside to drink water, where several people had gathered, some having tea and snacks. During this time, a white car (MP-20ZB-2934) approached at high speed.
Despite noticing people standing on the roadside, the driver allegedly did not apply brakes or honk and rammed into the scooter and the crowd. The impact was so severe that the vehicle overturned and hit several people. Ganesh Prasad sustained critical injuries and died, while another man, identified as Pankaj Sahu, a resident of Ganjipura under Lordganj, also succumbed to injuries. Shubham suffered injuries to his hands, legs and waist. The accused driver, identified as Kishan Chaudhary, a resident of Ranjhi, was caught on the spot by locals. He was allegedly under the influence of alcohol. The car also damaged several parked vehicles in the area. Garha police registered a case under Section 105 of BNS, seized the vehicle MP-20ZB-2934 and took the accused into custody and further investigation is underway.
