THE duo of Vedant Dighade and Yash Kadam hit hundreds as Navniketan Cricket Club ended the league phase of Dr MN Dorairajan with maximum points at VCA’s Kalamna Ground on Friday. With more than half of second day’s play washed out, it was big challenge for Navniketan to get past Ruby Colts’ 447-9 decl in 86 overs but Dighade and Kadam’s hundreds ensured that the team take crucial first innings lead making 448-7 decl in 88.1 overs. Wicketkeeper-opener Dighade, who was 80 not out overnight, continued from where he had left and scored a daddy hundred. He scored 152 from 234 balls with 16 fours and two sixes while Kadam raced to his century making 106 from 101 balls striking five fours and six sixes. Skipper Mohd Faiz made 66 from 84 balls. Varun Palandurkar (34*) and number nine Shantanu Chikhale (11*) added 30 important runs for the unfinished eighth wicket helping the team earn three points. Rohit Binkar took three wickets for 63 runs for Ruby. Aditya Kukde snared two. Ministerial Services Sports Club will take on Ruby Colts while Navniketan Cricket Club will lock horns with Indian Gymkhana in the semi-finals to be played from April 5-7 at VCA’s Kalamna Ground and the Civil Lines Stadium, respectively. At the end of fifth and final round of group league matches on Friday, MSSC topped Group A with 25 points from 5 matches while Indian Gymkhana were placed second with 21 points. In Group B, Navniketan CC topped the table with 28 points while Ruby Colts were second with 20 points. The final will be played from April 9-11 at the VCA Civil Lines Stadium.
