Dr Hemant Sharad Pande assumed charge of Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) of Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) on Friday. On this occasion, directors of WCL, the Chief Vigilance Officer, heads of departments and other senior officials extended their best wishes to him. Dr Pande possesses 37 years of rich experience in WCL and SECL. Prior to assuming charge as CMD, he was serving as Director (Human Resources) at WCL. During his tenure, he accelerated several important administrative and digital reforms within the organisation.
 
Under his leadership as Director (Human Resources), notable initiatives such as the ‘SWASTH’ portal for improved healthcare management, Dispensary Management System (DMS), and modernization of various HR portals were implemented. He also gave special emphasis to strengthening industrial relations, employee welfare, social security measures, medical facilities for retired employees, pension systems, and transparent administrative processes. Dr Pande graduated in Mining Engineering from Vishvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT), Nagpur.
 
He also holds a Master of Technology in Mining, a Master’s Degree in Business Administration, and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Management. To further strengthen his management and leadership capabilities, he had taken Advanced Global Techno-Management training at the prestigious European Business School ‘ESCP’ and undertook study visits to France, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium and the Netherlands. He also participated as a member of the Indian delegation in the Prospectors and Developers Association (PDAC) conference held in Toronto, Canada.
