Chandranath Rath murder probe: Car used bymiscreants brought from Jharkhand: WB Police
KOLKATA :
AS THE investigation into the
murder of Chandranath Rath,
the personal assistant of West
Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu
Adhikari,is underway the investigators say the car used in the
murder was brought from
Jharkhand and money was sent
online from that car,asenior
police officer said on Sunday.
The search for the accused is
underway based on that source.
However,noonehasbeenarrested yet. ASpecial Investigation
Team (SIT)has been formed by
the West Bengal Police to investigate Chandranath’s murder.
It also includes police officers
from theSpecial Task Force (STF)
and the Criminal Investigation
Department (CID), the
Intelligence department of the
State police.
Representatives of the investigation team have gone to Uttar
Pradesh tosearch forthe accused.
The investigators are hopeful
that all these sources will soon
lead to Chandranath’s killer and
theculpritswillbecaughtquickly.Atthe same time,the police
havecollected CCTV footage
from the Bali toll plaza which is
being examined.
Since the money was paid
online through UPI, efforts are
beingmade tocollectmoreinformation from there.
According to police officers,
several people arebeing questioned in connection with the
murder case.Chandranath was
shot dead in Madhyamgram of
North 24Parganasdistricton the
night of May 6.
Afour-wheelercame in front
of Chandranath’s car following
which his car stopped.
Atthat time,miscreants came
riding on two bikes from both
sides and fired gunshots at
Chandranath and his driver due
to which the personal assistant
of Suvendu Adhikari died on the
spot.
Chandranath’s driver is still in
thehospital.
The Bharatiya Janata Partyhas
levelled allegations against the
Trinamool Congress in the incident. However,Trinamool has
issued a statement condemning
the incident and demanded a
Central Bureau of Investigation
under the supervision of the
court. According to the police,
the plan to killChandranath had
been hatched at least amonth
and ahalf ago.
Itisbeingseenwhocouldhave
had areason to kill him at that
time,andwhetherChandranath
had aquarrel with anyone.
The police confiscated the car
used in the murder on the day
of the incident.
