The 10th Additional Sessions Court in Bhopal rejected the anticipatory bail application of Samarth Singh, the accused husband in the suspicious suicide case of Telugu film actress and model Twisha Sharma. Judge Pallavi Dwivedi denied relief, citing the extreme gravity of the offence and the ongoing, incomplete nature of the investigation. Following the court’s decision on Monday, police announced a reward of Rs 10,000 for information leading to the arrest of the absconding husband.
The case is registered at the Katara Hills police station under BNS sections 80(2), 85, and 3(5), alongside the Dowry Prohibition Act.
Twisha Sharma married Samarth Singh on December 9, 2025. Less than six months into the marriage, on the night of May 12, 2026, she died by hanging at her husband’s residence in Katara Hills. Prior to her marriage, the deceased was a prominent face in the film and advertising industry, performing as a lead actress in Telugu movies. Katara Hills police are conducting continuous raids at multiple locations to trace and arrest Samarth Singh, with search operations being monitored closely by Assistant Commissioner Rajnish Kashyap Kaul and District Commissioner Zone-2.
Representing the accused husband, advocate Inosh George Carlo argued that Sharma struggled to adjust to
domestic life and had a pre-existing drug addiction, which allegedly resulted in irritability.
The defense also asserted that the deceased underwent a self-induced abortion of her own accord and submitted a supportive affidavit from Samarth’s brother, Squadron Leader Sarthak Singh, who is posted in Coimbatore. Opposing the bail, victim’s advocate Ankur Pandey filed a written objection strongly refuting these claims. He submitted chat messages showing how the accused allegedly harassed Sharma for an abortion while questioning her fidelity. Pandey stated that despite the victim’s family bearing all wedding expenses, the in-laws demanded an additional Rs 2 lakh in dowry. He argued that Sharma was subjected to continuous physical and mental harassment. He also pointed out that the mother-in-law, Giribala Singh, a retired district judge who secured anticipatory bail on Friday, could use her influence to compromise the investigation. Meanwhile, the victim’s father, Navnidhi Sharma, claimed the police admitted the accused are highly influential. The family expressed concerns that the five-day delay in conducting a second post-mortem is causing decomposition of the body and destruction of potential evidence. While the Police Commissioner had initially permitted a second autopsy at AIIMS Delhi, local authorities are now insisting on judicial approval before transferring the body from the AIIMS Bhopal mortuary.
The family has demanded that the investigation be transferred outside Madhya Pradesh. In another development, recently surfaced CCTV footage reportedly shows Twisha Sharma walking towards the terrace shortly before the incident. Another clip allegedly shows her husband and two other individuals carrying her downstairs after the suicide attempt, with CPR being administered on the staircase. Responding to the allegations, retired judge Giribala Singh rejected all accusations. She maintained that the marriage was based on mutual consent and that Sharma was treated as a family member. She claimed the actress was undergoing psychiatric treatment under Satyakant Trivedi, was addicted to drugs, and the family performed CPR to save her life. After hearing both sides and reviewing the case diary, Justice Pallavi Dwivedi passed the order. The court emphasised that a suspicious death within sic months of marriage is an exceptionally serious matter. Given that the investigation is in its early stages and the primary accused remains at large, the court ruled that granting anticipatory bail to Samarth Singh would be inappropriate.
