UNION Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday launched Chhattisgarh Police’s upgraded AI-enabled Dial-112 emergency response service and flagged off mobile forensic vans, marking a major push towards technology-driven and evidence-based policing in the State. The launch programme was held at Mana Police Parade Ground in the State Capital in the presence of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, Deputy CM and Home Minister Vijay Sharma, State Assembly Speaker Raman Singh and DGP Arun Dev Gautam. Shah flagged off 400 advanced Dial-112 vehicles, 32 mobile forensic vans, 33 surveillance vehicles and 60 highway patrol units to strengthen emergency response and monitoring operations across State. It needs to be mentioned here that the upgraded Dial-112 service launched under the theme ‘Ekke Number, Sabbo Bar’, integrates police, fire and medical emergency services on a single platform. Operational since 2018 in 16 districts, it has now been expanded to all 33 districts. The new system uses AI-based real-time location tracking, GIS monitoring, GPS-enabled vehicle tracking, SIP trunk systems and automatic caller location identification for faster response. A backup control centre has also been activated at Police Headquarters in Nava Raipur to ensure uninterrupted services during technical failures or disasters.

The emergency vehicles are equipped with smartphones, GPS, wireless systems, PTZ and dash cameras, mobile NVR units and solar backup facilities. Citizens can seek help through calls, SMS, e-mail, WhatsApp, web portals, chatbot services and the SOS-enabled 112 India app. Special focus has been laid on women’s safety through panic button integration and enhanced surveillance. The initiative gains significance under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which mandates forensic investigation in serious offences punishable with seven years or more imprisonment. In a bid to strengthen scientific investigation, the State has introduced modern mobile forensic laboratories under the theme ‘Science on Wheels – Towards Faster Justice’. Each van, costing around Rs 65 lakh, is equipped with fingerprint detection systems, narcotics and blood testing kits, digital evidence collection devices, CCTV extraction systems and ballistic examination tools. Officials said the mobile labs would enable on-site forensic examination, evidence preservation and digital documentation, reducing delays and contamination risks during transportation of evidence. The integrated Dial-112 and forensic lab project is being seen as a landmark initiative aimed at modernising policing, ensuring transparent investigation and speeding up justice delivery in Chhattisgarh.
