Water is abundant, water management is the issue: Nitin Gadkari

“We have abundance of water, but lack of water management is the real issue,” said Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways while encouraging people to contribute in water conservation. Gadkari, in his address, informed that he helped Punjab, Haryana, and eight districts in Rajasthan get plentiful water by diverting the water from three rivers in Jammu and Kashmir that were earlier flowing to Pakistan. He also stated that he realised the lack of water resources is a major reason behind farmer suicide in Vidarbha and started to work for making Vidarbha a water-rich region. “Making all 10 districts of Vidarbha farmer-suicide free is my ultimate dream,” stated Gadkari.

‘School students must be given lesson on water conservation’

“There is need to train every school going student, and every citizen in the country on how to conserve water,” said Makarand Anaspure. He also emphasised the importance of taking care of the nature. “If you do not take care of nature now, nature will not take care of you later,” stated Anaspure. Anaspure urged them to work on principal of ‘My village, my country.’ He said that every Gram Panchayat must assign role for tree plantation, soil conservation, water saving measures among others to different people and work to achieve their goals on local level.
