Serious questions are being raised about the safety arrangements in elevators installed in the commercial buildings of the capital as in yet another incident on Thursday, Gargi Pardeshi, wife of Siddharth Komal Pardeshi, became trapped in an elevator at the Pithaliya Complex in Fafadih. The event occurred around 8 am while she was taking the elevator to the gym. The elevator suddenly broke down, leading to a state of panic for the occupant and causing a commotion at the scene. Following the incident, family members and corporation officials were informed. Raipur Municipal Corporation Commissioner Vishwadeep confirmed the event and stated that municipal officials from Zone 2 were immediately dispatched to the location. Chief Electrical Inspector Suresh Kumar Netam noted that while he was not initially aware of the specific incident, departmental instructions would be issued to inspect the elevator operations and safety standards at the complex.

The recent malfunction at Pithaliya Complex follows a similar emergency involving Richa Sharma at the Currency Tower on April 20. Reports indicate that the elevator in that building lacked adequate lighting and proper ventilation. Furthermore, the absence of an emergency alarm or a displayed helpline number prevented immediate assistance, leaving the occupant trapped for approximately 20 minutes. These recurring cases of technical malfunctions in multi-story buildings have sparked significant concern regarding the maintenance of safety protocols. Authorities are now under pressure to ensure that all commercial elevators meet the required safety standards to prevent future occurrences and ensure the well-being of the public. Following the death of Richa Sharma in the Currency Tower elevator, the urgency for rigorous inspections of mechanical and safety systems has become a priority for departmental officials.
