Jabalpur Municipal Corporation (JMC) has launched a pool vehicle system for its officers, in a bid to save fuel, cut costs and reduce pollution. The initiative takes inspiration from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s nationwide call for fuel conservation and environmental protection. Under the new system, officers will travel together in a single vehicle instead of using separate cars for official work and site inspections. The move got off to a visible start on Tuesday. Senior officials travelled together in the vehicle allotted to the building officer. The three officers conducted a joint inspection of various wards and development works across the city all in one car.

The Jabalpur Municipal Corporation administration says the initiative will serve a twin purpose. It will reduce the financial burden of petrol and diesel expenses on the civic body. It will also bring down the number of vehicles on the road, lowering carbon emissions in the process. Municipal Commissioner Ramprakash Ahirwar said the Municipal Corporation is committed to putting the Prime Minister’s call into action on the ground. He said the pool vehicle system will lead to significant savings in administrative expenditure while promoting environmental protection. Senior officials said the system will now be followed regularly for all Government work and field inspections.
