The meeting was conducted by officials including the Assistant Director, Sijhora, Range Officer Sarhi and Range Officer Sijhora Buffer. It was attended by local stakeholders such as the Sarpanch and Panchayat members of Katanga village, members and President of the Eco Development Committee Sarhi, tourist guides, hotel owners and managers, as well as vehicle owners and drivers operating in the area.
During the discussion, a unanimous resolution was passed stating that all stakeholders will work collectively to prevent the entry of domestic and stray dogs into forest areas to curb the spread of infections among wild animals.
The participants also assured full cooperation in vaccination drives for stray and pet dogs being conducted by the forest department.
Hotel operators were advised to ensure proper disposal of leftover food and waste to avoid attracting stray animals. As a precautionary measure, the Kanha management has temporarily closed the Amahi forest route for tourism.
Forest officials also urged villagers to immediately inform authorities if any wild animal is found exhibiting abnormal behaviour or signs of illness in or around forest areas.
All participants expressed unity and commitment towards wildlife conservation, stating their full support to the forest department’s initiatives aimed at protecting tigers and other wildlife in the reserve.
