The carcass of a tiger was found at Kisli range of Kanha Tiger Reserve, on Monday.
According to the Forest Department, the carcass was spotted by a patrolling team in Beat Magarnala near compartment number 634 (15). Senior officials were immediately informed and necessary action was initiated following the guidelines of the National Tiger Conservation Authority, New Delhi and office of Chief Wildlife Warden, Bhopal. The site was secured and a dog squad was deployed to examine the area.
During the investigation, evidence of the presence of another adult tiger was found near the site, indicating possible territorial conflict. A post-mortem of the tiger was conducted by a team of wildlife veterinarians, including Dr Sandeep Agrawal, Wildlife Health Officer, Kanha Tiger Reserve, Dr Sunil Goyal and Dr Vishal Udde.
All body parts of the tiger were found intact. The animal was estimated to be around four years old.
Preliminary findings suggest that the tiger died due to injuries sustained in a fight with another wild animal, as multiple wound marks were found on its body. No initial signs of disease or viral infection were detected.
Viscera samples have been collected for further forensic analysis and will be sent to the School of Wildlife Forensic and Health for histopathological examination. The carcass was disposed of as per protocol in the presence of senior forest officials and local representatives. The entire process was documented through photography and videography while further investigation into the incident is ongoing.
