A city-based team of filmmakers won the Best Film Award at the Chennai Film Festival 2026 for their short film ‘Savitri’. Directed and written by Aditya Sharma, the film presents a narrative of a young girl striving to pursue education despite severe financial hardship. Cinematographer Pawan Piprode handled the visual storytelling and editing, while the film was produced by Avinash Singh Bhatia. Child actor Ojasvini Chauhan played Savitri, and Poorva Kusare-Iyer portrayed her mother. The direction team included associate director Siddhesh Patil and assistant directors Mohit Khopragade and Jaya Prajapati. The film was conceptualised as a tribute to Savitribai Phule on her birth anniversary.
