In a move that is set to change the social landscape of the capital, the Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL) has officially opened its doors for birthday celebration, kitty parties, pre-wedding shoot and social gatherings under its new ‘Celebration on Wheels’ policy. Bhopalites can now take their traditional parties to a whole new level by hosting them inside the modern and sleek Metro coaches, marking a shift from conventional restaurant venues to a high-tech moving experience.
The corporation has confirmed that for private social events such as kitty parties, birthday celebrations, and pre-wedding shoots, a maximum of 50 individuals will be permitted per coach.
This initiative aims to integrate the Metro services into the daily lifestyle and special moments of citizens, providing a safe, organised, and sophisticated environment for celebrations. Managing Director S Krishna Chaitanya stated that the policy reflects the vibrant culture of Bhopal and Indore, allowing citizens to celebrate their special occasions in a world-class setting while also boosting the corporation’s non-fare revenue.
Booking Details and Venue Costs: To host a kitty party or any creative event on the wheels, interested groups must submit their applications at least 15 days in advance. The application process is streamlined through the GM/DGM (Operations) office at the Subhash Nagar Depot in Bhopal, and bookings are handled on a ‘first come, first served’ basis.
The transparent tariff structure allows for flexible hosting; a static coach can be booked for Rs 5,000 per hour, while those wanting the thrill of a moving venue can opt for a coach at Rs 7,000 per hour.
While the policy allows for a group of up to 50 people within these rates, any guests beyond this limit will be subject to standard metro fare rules and additional charges.
Additionally, a refundable security deposit of Rs 20,000 per coach is required to ensure that the infrastructure is maintained and all safety protocols are followed during the festivities.
Alcohol and firecrackers not allowed: While the Metro welcomes the city’s social circles, it maintains strict guidelines to ensure the comfort of regular commuters and the safety of the network. All participants must undergo mandatory security screenings before boarding. The policy strictly prohibits the use of any inflammable or hazardous materials, and fire-based decorations like fire-crackers are not allowed inside the coaches. To preserve the public decorum of the transport system, there is a total ban on smoking, alcohol, and any form of public nuisance. The organisers are held responsible for any potential damages, and the corporation has emphasised that all celebrations must adhere to the highest safety standards. This initiative is already being followed in UP and Nagpur Metros.
