Several parts of Chhattisgarh witnessed rain, thunderstorm activity and gusty winds over the past 24 hours, bringing temporary relief from the summer heat. According to the Meteorological Centre, Raipur, light to moderate rainfall was recorded at isolated places across State. The highest maximum temperature in the state was recorded at 41 degrees Celsius in Rajnandgaon, while Ambikapur reported the lowest minimum temperature at 18.2 degrees Celsius. Raipur recorded a maximum temperature of 37.1 degrees Celsius, which was four degrees below normal, while the minimum temperature settled at 22.2 degrees Celsius. Significant rainfall was reported from Kutaru, Labhandih, Raipur, Bhatgaon, Sariya, Bilaigarh and Bilaspur. Weather officials said moderate to severe thunderstorm activity along with lightning and strong winds occurred at many places in the state during the last 24 hours.
 
The India Meteorological Department stated that cyclonic circulations over northeast Uttar Pradesh and north Telangana are influencing the current weather conditions. The department has forecast light rain at isolated places on May 7, along with chances of thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kmph in some areas. For Raipur city, the sky is expected to remain partly cloudy on May 7, with the maximum and minimum temperatures likely to remain around 38 degrees Celsius and 24 degrees Celsius respectively. Weather officials also indicated that thunderstorm activity may reduce after May 7, while maximum temperatures across State are expected to rise gradually by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius over the next three days.
