The Social Security Wing (SSB) of the Crime Branch has uncovered an inter-state sex racket that was allegedly being run through a website in Nagpur. During the operation, police rescued two young women and booked the alleged mastermind, identified as Raj, a resident of Jharkhand.
According to police officials, Raj had created a website to arrange prostitution services and had shared a mobile number for customers to get in touch. After receiving calls, he would allegedly chat with customers and fix deals ranging between Rs 5,000 and Rs 10,000.
Police said, the women involved were paid around Rs 2,000, while the remaining amount was transferred directly to Raj’s bank account through online payments. Customers were reportedly asked to make payments by scanning a QR code available on the women’s mobile phones.
During the investigation, police found that a 22-year-old woman from Uttar Pradesh and a 27-year-old woman from Delhi were working for the accused in Nagpur. Officials said, one of the women had arrived in the city from Delhi by flight just a few days before the raid.
The action was taken after Deputy Commissioner of Police (Detection) Rahul Maknikar received information about the illegal activities being operated through the website. Following his directions, a team led by PI Rahul Shire of the SSB laid a trap at Krishna Hotel under the jurisdiction of Ganeshpeth Police Station.
The police raided the hotel, rescued the two women and registered a case against the accused. Further investigation is underway to trace Raj and find out whether the racket has links in other states as well.
