Defying Odds, Raisen labourer’s son scores 680 in NEET-UG, Adarsh Lodhi’s 13-hour grind, zero smart-screen time
Staff Reporter :
The declaration of the NEET-UG 2026 results late Thursday night by the National Testing Agency (NTA) has highlighted remarkable stories of resilience across the State. At the forefront of this year’s success is Adarsh Lodhi, a student from a remote village in the Raisen district, who scored a phenomenal 680 marks out of 720 to secure an All India Rank (AIR) of 304 and a category rank of 79. The son of daily-wage labourers, Adarsh overcame an economically unstable background where his parents toil in others’ farmlands to make ends meet. He shattered the myth that cracking the elite medical entrance exam requires expensive coaching networks by relying solely on his school. Adarsh noted that he received a scholarship and undertook all his exam-oriented preparatory classes directly at the Subhash Excellence School in Bhopal.
The structural decision to hold a Re-NEET following paper leaks proved beneficial for him; he had scored 670 marks in the cancelled May 3 exam but added 10 crucial marks in the June 21 re-test.
Stayed away from phone entirely
“One should prepare in a continuous, running manner, meaning you must practice exam-oriented questions alongside your regular school curriculum,” Adarsh shared, breaking down his gruelling routine of 6 hours of school preparation followed by 6 to 7 hours of daily self-study. “The entire syllabus should be mastered to its fullest with absolute focus and hard work.” He further mentioned that he stayed away from smartphones entirely, using a basic phone strictly for essential calls.
Adarsh is aiming for a seat at AIIMS Delhi, keeping AIIMS Bhopal as his second preference.
Jabalpur and Indore State toppers lead the MP tally
State-wide metrics confirm a highly competitive year for the medical aspirants. A total of 1.18 lakh candidates appeared for the high-stakes test from the State, which was facilitated across 283 examination centres spanning 30 districts.
Aryaman Singh Solanki from Jabalpur officially topped the State, securing an elite All India Rank (AIR) 46. Aaradhya Garg delivered a standout performance, capturing AIR 110 nationally and ranking 85th in the General category to lead the Indore city cohort.
Excellence School celebrates 23 toppers
Adarsh Lodhi’s triumph is part of a larger institutional sweep.
The administration of the Subhash Excellence School revealed that a total of 23
students from various categories have emerged as toppers in this edition of the NEET exam.
Among the school’s prominent high-achievers is Prayag Singh Chauhan from Sidhi district, secured a score of 621 marks, setting his sights
firmly on AIIMS Bhopal while remaining open to other top-tier institutional choices.
Adding to the regional highlights, Aryan Gupta from the Mauganj district showcased impressive technical merit by securing 599 marks, narrowly missing the 600-mark threshold but sealing his spot for prime medical counselling options.
11.21 lakh aspirants qualify as exam transitions to digital format
On the national stage, the NTA announced that out of approximately 20 lakh students who took the examination, 11.21 lakh candidates have qualified for admissions into MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other medical courses.
A joint first rank was shared by Aryan Gupta from Punjab and Panshul Bansal from Haryana, both scoring 715 out of 720 marks. Elite score brackets showed that 19 candidates crossed the 700-mark threshold, while 138 candidates scored 690 or above. Statistics reveal that 93% of the top scorers are first-time test-takers, and 99% of the top rankers are aged between 17 and 19.
The 2026 exam cycle was marked by significant logistical overhauls; the initial May 3 offline exam was cancelled due to paper leak malpractices,
forcing the NTA to execute a massive re-examination on June 21 across 5,440 international and domestic centres in 13 languages.
To completely immunise the system against leaks, the Central Government has announced a structural change: starting from the 2027 academic session, the traditional pen-and-paper NEET-UG exam will be permanently shelved in favour of a Computer-Based Test (CBT) online mode. Officials confirmed that the syllabus, question volumes, subject distributions, and marking schemes will remain identical, and the NTA will provide dedicated mock test pathways to familiarise future aspirants with the digital interface.
