State Public Works Department Minister Rakesh Singh on Sunday said the life and ideology of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee remain relevant even today. He said Dr Mookerjee dedicated his life to the nation and his ideals continue to inspire people. Singh was addressing the Bharatiya Janata Party Karyakarta Sammelan organised at the party’s divisional office on the occasion of Dr Mookerjee’s 125th birth anniversary. The programme was attended by BJP District President Ratnesh Sonkar, MP Ashish Dubey, Rajya Sabha MP Sumitra Valmiki, Mayor Jagat Bahadur Singh, MLA Ashok Rohani along with several senior party leaders and workers. Addressing the gathering, Rakesh Singh said BJP workers should work with dedication to help India achieve the goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of "Nation First" reflects the ideals of Dr Mookerjee. He urged workers to promote self reliance and support indigenous products to strengthen the country’s economy. The PWD Minister said Dr Mookerjee always placed national interest above political positions.
 
He recalled that Dr Mookerjee became the youngest Vice Chancellor of Calcutta University at the age of 33 and worked to strengthen Indian culture and national values through education. He said Dr Mookerjee believed education should contribute to nation building and not remain limited to employment. Singh also spoke about Dr Mookerjee’s role in independent India and said his policies promoted self reliance and economic growth. He said the country’s progress under the present government reflects many of Dr Mookerjee’s ideas. He also referred to Dr Mookerjee’s stand on national unity and Jammu and Kashmir, terming him as a leader who never compromised on issues related to the nation. Expressing views on the occasion other senior leaders spoke about the formation of Bharatiya Jana Sangh under the leadership of Dr Mookerjee. Earlier, District President Ratnesh Sonkar welcomed the leaders and said the programmes organised during the birth anniversary celebrations aimed to familiarise workers with the life, contribution and vision of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee.
