Panic erupted outside Madhotal Police Station on Sunday after a man attempted to set himself afire by pouring petrol over himself in front of the police station. The injured man has been identified as Gangaram, a resident of Prabhat Nagar. According to initial information, he was upset over the police’s failure to take action in connection with an earlier complaint. Frustrated with the inaction of police on his complaint leads to his extreme step. Police personnel present at the spot acted promptly, preventing the fire from spreading further and immediately rushed the man to Government Medical College and Hospital for treatment.

 

He sustained serious burn injuries and is currently undergoing treatment. His condition is reported to be critical. Learning about the incident, senior police officers reached the spot and reviewed the situation. An investigation has been initiated to determine the circumstances that led to the attempted self-immolation. Police are examining CCTV footage from cameras installed near the police station to reconstruct the sequence of events and verify the man’s allegations. Investigators are also trying to determine the specific complaint over which Gangaram was dissatisfied with police action. Police are also investigating where and how Gangaram obtained the petrol used in the incident.
