NORMALlife in Durg district has been disrupted due to intermittent but continuous rainfall over the past two days. With the water level of Sheonath River rising rapidly, approximately 5 feet of water is flowing over the Mehmara Anicut. As a safety measure, the route to Mahmara village and the small bridge at Pulgaon have been closed for traffic. The administration and the SDRF team are on high alert. The water level of Sheonath River is steadily rising due to the continuous rain. By Monday morning, about 5 feet of water was flowing over the Mehmara Anicut, prompting increased vigilance in the areas along the riverbanks.

 

Gaurav Singh, SDO of the Water Resources Department, stated that while the situation is currently under control, the route from Mahmara Anicut to Mahmara village has been closed as a precaution. People have been urged not to venture near the river or the anicut. Due to the rising water level of the Shivnath River, the SDRF has also closed the small bridge at Pulgaon to traffic. Police personnel have been deployed at the bridge to ensure no one is put at risk. District Commandant and SDRF In-charge Nagendra Kumar Singh stated that the SDRF team is fully alert to handle any emergency situation. Residents of villages situated along the riverbanks from Thanod to Arsanara have been warned to stay away from the river. People living in villages along the riverbank have also been warned to stay away from the river.
