A STORMY General Council
Meeting of the Bhopal Municipal
Corporation (BMC) is expected
on August 19 as the Opposition
councillors prepare to confront
the executive over ongoing commercial sealing drives and widespread civic failures. The
Assembly is scheduled to convene at 11 am inside the
Kushabhau Thakre Bus Terminal
council hall under the chairmanship of Kisan Suryavanshi.
Beside routine deliberations on
previous session records and
councillor inquiries, the meeting agenda will centre heavily on
controversial urban issues and
major financial proposals.
Opposition prepares
assault over sealing,
infrastructure
OPPOSITION members plan to
mount an aggressive offensive
regarding civic action against
illegal commercial establishments operating within residential zones, executed following Supreme Court mandates.
Councillors are also gearing up
to stage formal protests over deteriorating road conditions and
widespread urban waterlogging
across multiple municipal zones
following recent heavy monsoonal rains. The Opposition
argues that municipal enforcement action has created severe
local disruption while fundamental public infrastructure
remains severely compromised.
Leader of Oppn
slams failed monsoon
preparedness
LEADER of Opposition Shabista
Zaki affirmed that broken transit corridors and severe floodlike situations across residential
hubs will form the core of opposition demands during the session. Zaki alleged that administrative claims regarding premonsoon drainage maintenance
completely collapsed after just
three days of continuous rainfall. Furthermore, the opposition leader criticised Mayor Malti
Rai, asserting that the executive
leadership failed to fulfill governance promises made over
her four-year tenure.
Council to evaluate
major property revenue proposals
BESIDE political confrontation, the general council will
evaluate key financial proposals aimed at leasing vacant
municipal assets to augment
civic revenue streams. Six distinct municipal properties have
been selected for commercial
leasing, which together hold
the potential to yield approximately Rs 51.14 lakh in monthly rental returns, translating to
an annual revenue generation
of nearly Rs 6.14 crore for the
municipal treasury.
Key vacant real estate
set for commercial
lease
THE financial agenda includes
leasing the vacant municipal
public relations office in New
Market for a minimum monthly reserve price of Rs 6.24 lakh.
Additional high-value real
estate assets slotted for commercial lease include vacant
office space inside the Bhopal
Smart City complex in BHELGovindpura at Rs 6.98 lakh per
month, alongside a commercial facility near Manisha
Market in Shahpura targeting
Rs 8.24 lakh in monthly rent.
Transport terminal,
headquarters space
included in bidding
THE largest single property on
the leasing agenda is a vacant
municipal office at the ISBT
complex, spanning over 4,431
square metres, with a proposed
minimum monthly rent of Rs
18.02 lakh. Furthermore,
vacant office space inside
Harshavardhan Complex at
Mata Mandir is projected to
fetch Rs 4.65 lakh monthly,
while designated operational
blocks at the new municipal
headquarters, including the
service block, are estimated to
generate Rs 7 lakh per month.
License proposals submitted for hawks corner zone
IN ADDITION to core real
estate assets, the municipal
council will deliberate on an
e-tender proposal for the Son
Chiriya Hawks Corner situated near Nutan College in Zone
8. The commercial licensing
proposal for the facility carries
an estimated minimum annual reserve fee of Rs 20.35 lakh,
forming part of broader municipal efforts to monetise commercial spaces and enhance
non-tax revenue collection
across the capital.
