BALAGHAT :
A 40-YEAR-OLD villager was
injured after being attacked by a
tiger in Khapa Buffer Zone of
Balaghat district on August 17.
According to the Forest
Department, the incident
occurred at around 7 am in
Compartment No. 1106 of Bodal
Behra area, under Mowala Circle
and Beat of Khapa Buffer Range.
The victim, identified as Santosh
Meharam, son of Diman Lal
Meharam, a resident of Kareli
village in Baihar tehsil, had
entered the buffer forest area to
collect mushrooms when the
tiger attacked him.
The villager sustained injuries
to his head, hands and legs. After
receiving information about the
incident, field staff of the Forest
Department immediately rescued the injured man and shifted him to the Community Health
Centre in Baihar, where he is
undergoing treatment. Senior
forest officials were also informed
about the incident.
Forest Department has provided immediate financial assistance to the injured villager.
Officials are also collecting information about wildlife movement
and possible routes used by the
tiger in the area. Surveillance has
been intensified and necessary
precautionary and safety measures are being implemented.
Forest Department has
appealed to the villagers not
to enter forests or buffer areas
alone for mushroom collection or other activities.
Residents have been advised
to maintain a safe distance
from wildlife and immediately inform forest officials
about any sighting or unusual
wildlife movement.
Officials said all necessary
measures are being taken
to ensure the safety of local
residents while also protecting wildlife.
