THE ongoing agitation by nursing students in Bhopal has completed 13 days. Due to the lack of permission for a protest site on the third day of the agitation, students staged a demonstration at the Polytechnic Crossing, following which they received permission to protest at Neelam Park for 30 days. Currently, some nursing students are protesting at Neelam Park; however, due to the absence of any assurance even after 13 days, the students are filled with anger. The students have stated that their peaceful protest will continue until their demands are met. Addressing this issue, protesting student Manoj Rajak stated that the Nursing State Core Committee held a meeting and decided that nursing students will move forward to the next phase of their agitation. As part of this, nursing students will observe ‘Demand Day’ across the entire state on September 1, for which preparations have already begun in all districts. On September 1, nursing students will raise their voices by organising rallies, protests, and meetings in all districts across the state. During this time, memorandums addressed to the Governor and the Chief Minister will also be submitted to the district administration.

 

Meanwhile, a crucial hearing regarding the nursing students' case is scheduled at the Jabalpur High Court on Wednesday, September 2. The future course of the agitation will be decided by the students based on the outcomes following this hearing. The students have clarified that this peaceful effort will continue until a permanent solution to their problems is found. Core demands ● Immediate hearing of the nursing case through a special bench and a judgment secured in the interest of all nursing students. ● Undelayed conduct of examinations for B.Sc. Nursing and GNM students across all categories (suitable, unsuitable, and the 56 colleges of the Gwalior region). ● Issuance of degrees and registration numbers to the 2020-21 batch by December 2026, alongside the prompt conduct of all pending examinations for the 2021-22 and 2022-23 batches. ● Release of a prompt examination calendar by MPMSU and MPNRC aligned with the aforementioned demands, with both institutions bound to conduct exams according to the calendar. ● Provision of a Litigation Pendency Certificate to nursing students of all categories. ● Financial compensation of Rs1,00,000 (one lakh rupees) to each affected student as partial recompense for past injustices and financial losses. ● Immediate disbursement of pending scholarships to nursing students across all categories (suitable, unsuitable, and the 56 colleges of the Gwalior region).
