UNION Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla amid the ongoing stalemate between the Government and the Opposition over a debate on the police crackdown on protesting students here and alleged theft of Ram temple donations. The Opposition has been stalling Lok Sabha proceedings while seeking a response from Shah on the use of force by police on students during their march to Parliament on July 20. Shah spent nearly an hour in Birla’s office. Separately, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met Shah in his Parliament House office. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju asserted in the Lok Sabha on Friday that the Opposition cannot dictate which Minister will come to the House and respond. He said Shah comes to Parliament every day and stays till late night. LS, RS adjourned till Monday amid Opposition protests: Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned for the day on Friday as Opposition members continued protests over various issues, including the NEET paper leak and Ram temple donation theft issues. Papers listed for the day and reports of various Parliamentary committees were tabled in the House. With the Opposition demanding a reply from Home Minister Amit Shah on the police excesses during the recent student protests against the NEET paper leak, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju asserted that the Opposition cannot dictate which Minster will come to the House and respond.

 

Home Minister Shah comes to Parliament every day and stays till late night, Rijiju asserted, and asked the protesting members to stop their “drama” of disrupting the House. Dilip Saikia, who was in the Chair, asked the protesting members to cooperate and allow the House to run. “Please go to your seats. Please cooperate,” he said. As the protests and sloganeering continued, Zero Hour was adjourned within 16 minutes and the House will now meet again on Monday. The Rajya Sabha proceedings were also adjourned for the day on Friday amid repeated disruptions by Opposition members who were demanding Home Minister Amit Shah’s presence in the House. As soon as the House met at noon, there was uproar after Chairman C P Radhakrishnan took up the Question Hour.

 

Opposition party members began slogan-shouting and also raised the issue of alleged theft of donations at the Ram temple in Ayodhya. The Chair went ahead with the listed business of the day amid din. Members from the Treasury benches protested against the Opposition’s continuous disruptions. As the pandemonium continued, the Chair adjourned the House till Monday. Parliament passes MSME Amendment Bill: Parliament has approved the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Amendment) Bill 2026, aimed at addressing payment delays faced by MSMEs and simplifying dispute resolution, with the Lok Sabha passing the Bill on Friday after the Rajya Sabha cleared it on Monday. The Bill was moved in the Lower House by Minister of MSME. Jitan Ram Manjhi. The new legislation makes it mandatory for Central Public Sector Enterprises to settle all procurement invoices through the Trade Receivables Discounting System to improve cash flows for MSMEs.
